Education

We provide training for universities and schools, teachers, dealers, students…

In August 2015 we had 2 Belgium engineers at our disposal to teach.

We have our own teaching syllabus and a lab kit !

The good news :

We want to do this again in 2017 !

If you are interested, please take contact and we hope we can arrange something for you !

Our program in 2015 :

A new approach to the market for alternative energy in Kenya / Tanzania.

Introduction:

After several visits last year in Kenya and Tanzania where I want to sell  off-grid solar products, such as solar-powered water pump, charging mobile, lighting …  to local and new distribution points,

I notice that:

  • Laudable, projects financed by various institutions such as government agencies, friends associations, service clubs …. have been neglected after the implementation of the project.
  • No maintenance, ignorance and theft are the basis that the donated equipment after a short time, no longer functioned.
  • None of the local community was responsible and / or did not have the necessary knowledge to keep the equipment in good working condition.
  • The donors in the homeland didn’t provide follow-up of the project.
  • Import of low-quality goods are partly responsible for the distrust that originated with the local population towards alternative energy.
  • The vast majority of the rural population has little or no access to energy, sanitation and water. Off-grid applications are needed there.

In short:  sufficient technical knowledge and access (universities and schools) to acquire practical knowledge is not present

How to remedy on a sustainable way the situation ?

  • Offer of a social and economic model:
    • combining vocational training in renewable energy and entrepreneurship.
    • offering this training primarily for off-grid applications.
    • train teachers who provide appropriate training in local schools.

Purpose:

  • Job creation and local economic development that can be replicated.

Our approach:

In each county, we investigate whether a university / school is willing to act as host university /school to provide

training for about 5 teachers.

Duration of training 4-5 days.

host university / school provides:

– 5 teachers from the region who wish to attend the course.

– The necessary infrastructure and hospitality (premises, transport, accommodation …).

We provide the Belgian instructors, course and adapted laboratory equipment.

After the training we provide for the teachers who attended the course a laboratory package that these provide training in the local school to their students.

Objective of the course:

  • Have the form of the students so that following skills:
    • The client can offer an appropriate solution and quote
    • make correct calculation of an off-grid system depending on the needs of the customer
    • ordering the right components that are specific to the preparation
    • mounting the requested installation
    • Operation and maintenance of the system

What are the advantages of this approach?

Host university / -school:

  • Offering a new training in a direction of future study.
  • A contact point for the entire region.
  • Professional course, complemented by a custom laboratory package.

Local schools / teachers:

  • Teachers have a new educational direction, with a custom course, supported by a laboratory package.
  • Offering a new study direction.

Students:

  • Immediately available in the labor market.
  • Entrepreneur in off-grid applications.
  • Gain internship experience in our own projects.
  • Update existing local businesses in renewable energy.

General:

  • Job creation and local economic development that can be replicated
  • in all regions.
  • Develop a long term strategy with schools / universities, teachers and students
  • supporting the local community.

For Zonpunt:

–      Extensive network, supported by the schools that our “showcase” will be.

–       Motivated customers (teachers and students)

–      In touch with the local market

Future:

  • If the first off-grid courses after successful evaluation, implementation in other provinces / regions.
  • Where the first course took place in the host universities / schools offer a second course on-grid.

What have we achieved:

  • English language course is a first assessment were well and meets its objectives.
    • course will be supplemented and modified in the current weeks.
  • Lab kit is composed.
  • Belgian teachers who will deliver the training in July / August to local teachers:
  • Peter Boone and Mr. Lucas Kesteloot.
  • Two passionate engineers who have experience in Uganda with a water pump project on solar energy
  • Mr Lucas Kesteloot has been teaching in Guatemala
  • In Kenya:
    • host university in Kenya: Lukenya University
    • discussion: Taita University
    • circular will be sent next week to all governors:
      • acquainted with this new opportunity
      • addressing future host universities / schools
    • circular to Embassy of Kenya in Brussels and the Belgian Embassy in Nairobi
  • In Tanzania:
    • host university in Tanzania:
    • Place: Dar es Salaam – premises: negotiating with REA (Rural Energy Agency).
    • Circular will next week be sent to all local authorities involved:
      • acquainted with this new opportunity
      • addressing future host universities / schools
    • circular to Embassy of Tanzania in Brussels and the Belgian Embassy in Dar es Salaam

What do we need:

“Details and cost” you can find the cost of a lab kit, trainers, transport and insurance.

Additional financial and / or material support.

Our contribution:

General local contacts, logistics, universities, schools, …

Composition of a unique English language course in conjunction with the laboratory adapted package.

I’m responsible for the proper conduct and follow-up of  the entire project : general logistics, transportation
